Q: Alright, serious question for you Soda, what made you guys want to make the Phighting characters little demon fellas? Like why demons?

Soda: I don't know. Like, we were just doing a drawpile and I drew demon horns on a guy – Actually I think it was like the Sword horns. I just drew like little demon horns on this little guy, and G was like, 'Oh, I kind of like that.' And I was like, okay, so I started drawing more, and the other concept became Rocket. And we were like oh, this is kind of cool. And, uh, yeah, we were like, what if it was like in Hell, or whatever, and it was like a tournament, or something. And we were like yeah, that sounds kind of cool, and we could have announcers, like Splatoon.

Q: Speaking of demons, when are you guys revealing the species name for the demons?

Soda: Uh... They have the species name already, but... I'd rather, um, like what's the word for it... I'd rather give you guys all the information, in-game, rather than saying here. So I will do that.

Soda: Yeah they– they aren't demons, I know, it is very confusing.

Soda: No, it's not new lore, it's always been like that.

Q: I always wondered this since I play this and I draw as well, but when making characters in this game, who was the hardest to design?

Soda: Uh, character... I think the longest we spent on designing a Phighter was actually Scythe. If I'm not mistaken. 'Cause - we had to remake her weapon like fuckin' three times. 'Cause at first she was gonna be a sniper! And then we were like oh, that would kinda make Hyperlaser obsolete; and then Pix and G were like, oh what if we made it automatic, so then we made it an automatic; and then, um... I based it on an AK-47, but then, um... We didn't like that design, so then we based it on an MP, I think it's a 34 or 43, I can't remember. And then, uh... We were like okay yeah, this is cool. And the design? Oh my god, dude - you have no idea how long it took us to choose the colors. 'Cause we were arguing back and forth - I was like, make her fucking teal! And G was like, no, make her white. And like for like a solid day we were fighting over what color she would be, and then, eventually we went with white, so...

Q: Care to share some Void Star facts with us, if you don't mind?

Soda: Uh, you'll have to be more specific... (pause) Oh, actually, I do have a kind of, kind of an idea, uh, or, like, kind of a fact. She wasn't supposed to look like that originally. I, like, posted a - hang on, I'll bring it up on the board – She was supposed to look like this, originally. But then I was like, 'this looks ass,' so then I deleted it, and then I started again. (laugh) (pause) But I'm much happier with this design, actually.

Soda: Well, she's not his pet. Like, I-- That seems really like, dehumanizing. But like, I-- she's not technically... fully sentient– I don't know, the ethics of that are very questionable, actually. She just, exists, she's rabid sometimes. But she's not like, his pet or whatever. He just takes care of her, 'cause no one else really can.

Like the animal gears, I think they'd probably have like their host, or demon, whatever the fuck you wanna call it, would kinda reflect that, you know. So like if they have the Doge gear, they'd probably get like, a dog tail or something.

Soda: Yeah, essentially. She's like a little critter. And then she became really, really, really big.
