Sword event

A Sword event is a gameplay mechanic that modifies a match when One Minute Remaining occurs. Sword events apply various effects to players from both teams for the remainder of a match.

Overview

Each map in the voting menu has a 5% chance for it to be a Sword event. During Multiplier Matches sword rounds have a 100% chance of happening. Players will not know which map has a Sword event. During Phestivals, a map with a Sword event will have a sword present on the thumbnail alongside a sound cue during map voting.

When One Minute Remaining begins, the weapon of a randomly selected character will appear at the center of the map with dialogue, and use their respective ability. These abilities can affect both teams and will continue to do so for the remainder of a match. The effects of a special round do not continue into Overtime, excluding Firebrand.

Sword event mechanics

When Darkheart appears, the screen will tint green and he will give all players a random status effect that lasts for 10 seconds when the timer reaches 0:53 and every 6 seconds thereafter. These effects last for X seconds and can vary. Darkheart can give players one of the following effects:

  • 50% armored
  • 50% bound
  • 100% jump boost
  • 100% vulnerable
  • Swap a player's position

When Dom appears, he will periodically fire out a purple blast from the centre of the map. The blast instantly recharges the Phinishers of all players. Dom fires these blasts when the timer reaches 0:55 and 0:30.

When Firebrand appears, he sets all players on fire when the timer reaches 0:55. Players set on fire will take damage at a rate of 3 HP per second. At 0:30, the fire debuff is reapplied to all living players. The fire will not damage the player below 1 HP and cannot be cleansed. The fire debuff is removed on death.

When Icedagger appears, he will fire a barrage of snowballs at random locations near him. Players hit by Icedagger's snowballs take 10 damage and are stunned for 1 second. When the timer reaches 0:30, Icedagger ends the snowball barrage and disappears.

When Valk appears, he will periodically fire a yellow blast from the centre of the map. The blast knocks all player away from the centre, heals all players, and gives all player a 100% speed boost.

When the timer reaches 0:57, Venomshank will summon zombies at each player's location. He will summon new zombies every 15 seconds thereafter. Venomshank's zombies will chase after the closest player, and will do 15 damage over X seconds if a player comes into contact with them. The zombies have multiple properties:

  • Each zombie has 100 HP.
  • A zombie can die to killbricks or fall out of bounds if led by a player.
  • Zombies can receive Status Effects as normal.
  • Damage sources that generate Phinisher points can generate it from damaging a zombie.
