Phighters
Phighters are playable classes in PHIGHTING!. Each Phighter has a unique design, personality, set of abilities, and dialogue in-game. During Phights, only one of each Phighter can be present on the same team normally.
In-Game
Players can select any of the available classes when spawning into Crossroads, the PHIGHT! Lobby, or an ongoing Phight. A player can change their Phighter at any time when in Crossroads or during Phight intermissions. During Phights, this can only be changed when standing in proximity to the player's spawn.
Phighters are split broadly into three categories of Melee, Ranged and Support classes. All Phighters have, at minimum, five different abilities, as well as a passive ability. Some classes have multiple stances that may be switched between by use of an ability or a designated key bind.
The abilities every Phighter has are as follows:
- Passive - A passive, permanent ability that may or may not be triggered by various criteria during a Phight.
- Primary - A basic attacking move.
- Secondary - A secondary attacking or support move, or a stance switch ability in the case of some Phighters.
- Q Ability, E Ability - Speciality moves, typically with long cooldowns and oftentimes featuring movement abilities. They may also be stance switch abilities in the case of some Phighters.
- Phinisher - A high-impact 'ultimate' move that requires a certain amount of Phinisher points before it can be used.
Additionally, some Phighters have niche abilities, such as:
- Reload - An ability to reload ammo for most Ranged and some Support Phighters. Reloading has different behaviour between Phighters and may need to be used strategically.
- Empower - A mechanic currently unique to Sword and Boombox that is used to 'empower' their next move, giving it different, usually stronger, effects. Empowerment may be activated either by charging and activating Sword's meter, or by perfectly timing abilities to Boombox's metronome.
All Phighters have a determined Health and
Shield, which in combination makes up their hitpoints.
Players are able to customize Phighters by way of skins. Skins are cosmetic variations on a Phighter that imagine them in different situations, costumes, and alternate universes. Skins may have unique visual effects, sound effects, and dialogue.
In-Universe
Within the world of PHIGHTING!, Phighters are, generally, inphernals who compete in Phights or Phighting tournaments within The Inpherno. There are countless Phighters, but for the purposes of gameplay, only a select few are playable. The Phighters that appear in the game are not necessarily the same Phighters that actually compete, as it would be impossible or unreasonable for them to participate in the same tournament, or to participate at all. Despite this, phighting is a thing that all inphernals do instinctively, and which makes up a large part of their culture.
