Shooting Teapot Observatory, formerly Teapots of Doom, is a map in PHIGHTING!.

Overview

Shooting Teapot Observatory is a large Conquer map comprised of a large central dome covering a spinning teapot carousel and an open sandy area with minimal cover. On each side of the central dome are two open areas connecting each teams' respective spawn. These areas provide more cover than the central ring as well as access to the upper floors without going through the trampoline chute in the middle of the map.

Gameplay features

Shooting Teapot Observatory plays a special version of Conquer where the zone changes locations at specific intervals—2:40 and 1:10 on the match timer—signaled by a sound and the on-screen notification: "The point is moving!". When the zone moves, it disappears and reappears at the new location after a 10-second interval.

The first zone location is at the far end of the map from where players spawn, on top of a bridge. The second location is in the center of the map below the teapot carousel. The final location is at the other end of the map, immediately accessible from each spawn via a chute next to it.

There are several chutes around the map that shoot the player upwards, as well as a trampoline in the central chute connecting to the spinning teapot carousel. The map is placed over a large void.

For its One Minute Left event, the sky begins to darken to nighttime at 1:10 on the match timer, after which 'shooting teapots' resembling bright streaks of light start to fall from the sky.

Setting

Shooting Teapot Observatory is a flying teapot-themed observatory set in the sky. Teapots, plates and cups can be found scattered across the ship. The outside features screws, gears and engines, holding it together and powering the ship. It also features ropes connecting to the top of the observatory, featuring a spinning teapot. Below the giant teapot ontop, holds a carousel with plates and teapots spinning. At the front of the observatory, a telescope is found for sight-seeing.

Trivia

• This map is based on the 2007 game, Classic Dodge The Teapots of Doom by Clockwork.
• Its first version, Teapots of Doom, was temporarily brought back into standard map rotation for the Possessed vs. Bitten Phestival.
• Upon the initial release of its rework, its gamemode was set only to Annihilate.
• Currently, this is the only map in the game to have a moving Conquer zone.
• Shooting Teapot Observatory is one of the only maps in PHIGHTING! that represents an actual location in The Inpherno, being an airship owned by Lord Pwnatious "Moneybags" the III and their family. It shares this distinction with Banland and Darkage Cliffs.
  • Despite this, the map is inaccurate to how it would actually appear in-universe, due to it being designed for gameplay first.

Version history

V0.8.0 - 13 July 2024 Shooting Teapot Observatory's gamemode was changed to Conquer while also receiving additional gameplay features. Map theme changed from "Light" - Kirby Air Ride to "PORCELAIN FANTASY" by LeonJD and yeletez. V0.8.0 - 2 March 2024 Teapots of Doom received a visual overhaul and was renamed to Shooting Teapot Observatory. Shooting Teapot Observatory was added as an Annihilate map. V0.3.0 - 5 September 2022 Teapots of Doom was removed. Playtest 2 - 15 April 2022 Teapots of Doom was added to the game. 17 March 2022 Teapots of Doom was revealed to the public.
