Overview

Sword is a melee Phighter that plays as jack-of-all-trades in his category. His boasts decent mobility, high melee damage and decent bulk. He performs well in close quarters, but has limited options at ranged combat. But even with this, Sword can still maneuver well with its abilities and can even perform crowd control with his phinisher. If you are fighting a Sword, always try to get help from teammates. Fighting a good Sword will be more like a boss fight than a normal duel.

Details:

  • The damage from All-Mighty Axle Arc does not generate phinisher points.
  • Sword throws his sword in an arc. Longer distances require the player to point their crosshair higher.

  • Sword cannot use his other abilities until his sword returns to him.
  • All-Mighty Axle Arc will not continue to cast if Sword dies before throwing the sword.
  • If Sword dies before the sword of All-Mighty Axle Arc lands, the Phinisher will be cancelled.

Pros
  • Exceptional survivability thanks to high hitpoints and Spirit of the Sword.
  • High damage output across the board.
  • Low downtime phinisher.
  • Low skill floor.
Cons
  • Jack of all trades. Covers all grounds in offense, but his specialties are outperformed by other Phighters.
  • Poor range.
  • High health and low shield stats makes it easy for Sword to take permanent damage without a healer in the team.
  • Reliant on Lunge for mobility.


Sword is a close quarters demon against any class. They are extremely bulky and can do a good amount of damage. They play as a jack of all trades so they do not have any counters. Your main goal is to always play flexible and find a certain play style to counter your enemy. If you have a Medkit on your team you should always make sure they don't die. Medkit and sword is a amazing team duo as it makes sword even more bulky. Making sword almost feel like a boss then your average class. With each class you fight you should always find the one to counter them. If your fighting another Sword, make sure you aren't predictable and keep switching between offensive and defensive. Sword is godlike in Annihilation if your in a open space map like Doomspire or KOTH. Your E is your main way of gaining mobility. Jumping before using E then using Q gives you the most mobility possible. E + Q is your main combo. Use F only in big crowds to deal more damage. Using F in the center of the conquer circle has 2 possibilities: 1, your enemies take a high amount of damage and get knocked out of the circle, or 2, they flee from the circle until your sword explodes. With sword, Always, ALWAYS, play flexible and make sure your enemy doesn't find out your playstyle.

    • Use Blade Beam to finish off enemies outside of your range or to chip away at their health.
  • Dolphin Slash
    • Using Dolphin Slash during Lunge allows the player to carry the dash's momentum forward. Use this for quick mobility or to close the gap against enemy players.
      • The later you use Dolphin Slash, the more distance you cover. Using it early in the lunge can allow you to apply Lunge's damage and grab to an enemy within the first 50 studs.
    • Dolphin Slash's low cooldown makes it excellent for getting onto high ground or avoiding damage.
  • Lunge
    • Jumping before using Lunge can extend the lunge distance from 50 to 70 studs.
    • Jumping after using Lunge can extend the total distance from 50 to 80 studs, though the lunge will only hit players within the first 50 studs.
    • A simple combo is E-Q-LMB. This combo can reliably kill players with 54 HP or less if the lunge lands. Landing the Lunge guarantees the rest of the combo to land.
  • All-Mighty Axle Arc
    • Your phinisher is very telegraphed. Use it out of sight from other players.

Development:

  • Sword is based on the Linked Sword gear.
  • Sword's abilities and appearance is inspired from Marth and Ike from the Fire Emblem franchise.
    • In particular, his Q ability, Dolphin Slash is a reference to the same move used by Marth in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
  • Sword is the first Phighter to be developed. Sword was developed alongside the game engine used in PHIGHTING!, which took 1 month to complete.
