Sword is a melee Phighter. He was released on 19 February 2022 with Playtest 1.

Overview

Sword is a melee Phighter that plays as a 'jack of all trades' in his class. He boasts decent mobility, high melee damage and decent bulk. He performs best in close quarters, constantly pressuring the enemy with Slash and Lunge. However, he is limited in ranged combat, relying only on Blade Beam to chip away at enemies from afar. His passive, Spirit of the Sword, enables him to use an empowered version of an ability for high bursts of damage, with the potential for many combos with his other abilities. Sword can even perform large crowd control and area denial through his Phinisher, All-Mighty Axle Arc.

Damaging enemies or being damaged charges a meter. When charged, press R or touch the center of your screen to power up your next ability.

Max. meter: 100 points
Damage to charge conversion: 50% of damage taken

  • Damage from empowered abilities cannot contribute to the meter.
  • Empowered abilities do not have a cooldown, though using an empowered ability will put the unpowered version on cooldown.
  • A short sound plays along with a particle effect shown around Sword upon reaching full meter.
    • The sound effect is audible to other players.
  • Meter charge cannot be gained past full meter.
  • Using an empowered ability or dying resets the meter to 0.

General:

Development:

  • Sword's abilities and appearance are inspired by Marth and Ike from the Fire Emblem franchise.
    • In particular, his Q ability, Dolphin Slash is a reference to the same move used by Marth in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
    • Additionally, his Phinisher line is a direct reference to one of Ike's taunts in the Super Smash Bros. series.
  • Sword is the first Phighter to be developed. Sword was developed alongside the core gameplay systems used in PHIGHTING!, which took one month to complete.
  • Moon Animator was used to animate the cape rather than Blender as Roblox Studio had issues importing it.[1]

Skins:

  • Marshmallow Sword is a community contributed skin created by HattsOff_TheHatt.
    • The skin placed 1st in the 2022 Summer Skin Contest.
  • Follower Sword is based on Illumina.
